The exhibition FAIR GAME (2008-09) was the result of a six month residency, the William Hodges Fellowship. Fair Game was inspired by the local white baiting and duck shooting communities and the Southland wetland environment (New Zealand). Sculptural pieces were developed in response to tools / props / motifs of the sport's respective activities. The checkerboard carpeted piece scored with cartographic symbols provided a game board / stage (Flatlands) for the individual push toy pieces (Duck 'n' Gun) and the gallery visitors to engage with directly. An audio recording of people sharing their experiences and memories of these activities provided a backdrop to the installation.
